General Information:

Does DCRP accept admission in the Spring?

The department normally accepts Fall admission.  Under exceptional circumstances
Spring admission will be considered with permission from the chair of the department.

What are the minimum GRE scores?
The Graduate School guidelines recommend minimum GRE scores above the 50th
percentile on both the quantitative and verbal sections.

What are the minimum TOEFL scores?

Paper-based:  The required minimum total score on the TOEFL exam is 550 with a
minimum of 50 in each section.

Computer-based: The required minimum total score on the TOEFL exam is 213 with a
minimum of 18 in each subsection.

What major is needed to be accepted into the DCRP program?
The educational backgrounds of applicants cover a wide variety of academic fields,
work experiences, ethnic backgrounds, and geographic locations.  Among them are
architecture, biology, business, economics, engineering, biology, geography, geology,
history, landscape architecture, philosophy, planning, political science, psychology,
public administration, sociology and urban studies.

Can applicants visit the department during the year?
We recommend applicants attend open-house weekend, hosted by the department
each spring, which provides an opportunity to learn about the department and discuss
professional interests with faculty, enrolled students and other applicants.  Prospective
applicants can also visit on the following dates:

Applicant Information:

When is the deadline for submitting an application for admission?
December 1 is the general deadline to be considered for university merit awards; however, the
Graduate School allows for a grace period of three weeks.  DCRP makes decisions on merit-bases,
departmental assistantships and fellowships by late March and continues to accept applications
until late April.

When will we receive a decision concerning admission?
Applicants are notified of admission on a continuous basis between late January and early May.

What is my application status?

When is the deadline to accept or decline an offer of admission with financial aid?
Applicants must accept or decline admission with financial aid by April 15.

When is the deadline to accept or decline an offer of admission without financial aid?
Applicants have three weeks after receiving a letter of admission to accept/decline admission.

Can students enroll part time?
The department normally does not admit part time students.  Students are enrolled full time
(at least 9 credit hours) and take 12-15 credit hours each semester.

Information to be sent directly to the department includes: supplemental questionnaire
(including resume, and statement of purpose), three letters of recommendation and one
copy of your transcipt..



Incoming Student Information:

When do incoming students register for classes?
All incoming students are assigned academic advisors.  After meeting with their advisors during
orientation in August, students register for their classes.

When is Fall Orientation?
Orientation is August 17-22. Classes begin August 23.

Student Funding Information:

When will students receive a decision concerning financial aid?
Students will receive notification of financial aid awards in March.

What type of financial aid does the department offer?
The department offers fellowships, assistantships, and part-time employment opportunities to
MRP and Ph.D. applicants.  These awards are granted on the basis of merit and financial need.
