Position Description:
The Green Initiatives Manager is responsible for leading Self-Help's efforts to incorporate environmental stewardship goals into our community lending and development work. The employee will support existing Self-Help teams to identify, assess and and carry out projects that combine our economic development, social justice, and environmental goals. Initiatives could include, but are not limited to, a loan fund for energy efficiency improvements, outreach to the alternative energy sector, and green improvements to our facilities and operations. This is a long-term, grant-funded position.
Essential Responsibilities:
The Green Initiatives Manager will collaborate with various teams, to carry out initiatives such as:
* Support expansion of Self-Help’s lending in the energy efficiency, renewable energy, and green business sectors
* Collaborate in efforts to improve the energy efficiency of Self-Help’s various facilities
* Explore strategies and support implementation of sustainability improvements in internal operations
* Analyze all areas of Self-Help’s work to identify and implement new sustainability-related opportunities
* Increase outreach to networks, organizations, and businesses in relevant green sectors
Minimum Qualifications:
* 5-10 years experience in commercial real estate development, green building or design, environmental management, community development
* Undergraduate or graduate degree in environmental management, business administration, planning, public policy, engineering, architecture or related discipline.
* Commitment to both environmental stewardship and economic justice
* Ability to work with and motivate peers on multiple team-driven projects, including project management skills
* Strong networking and outreach skills
* Strong financial analytical skills
* Ability to both lead as well as carry out tasks
* Willingness to travel, mostly in North Carolina
Desired Qualifications:
* Knowledge of energy efficiency and greenbuilding methods
* Knowledge of the renewable energy sector
* Familiarity with financial incentives available for energy efficiency and renewable energy
* Familiarity with real estate and/or business finance would be a plus

Hazard Mitigation Planner

Position Overview
The goal of the CRWG is to provide national leadership to close the gap in assets and wealth between diverse racial and ethnic groups and whites. This Initiative involves work in both policy and practice and aims to strengthen the asset field, achieve significant positive system change, and increase the influence of people of color in the asset building field.
The Insight Center believes savings and asset building is a key strategy for helping people and communities become and remain economically secure. Since 2004, we have been the managing partner of this initiative for the Ford Foundation to increase the voices of people of color in the asset building field. Since 2006, this work became the Closing the Racial Wealth Gap Initiative with the mission of creating and moving an agenda that will close the gap within a generation.
Principal Responsibilities
Internal
- Insure the smooth functioning of the internal team by monitoring the Initiative?s progress Interacting with other Insight Program areas to ensure synergy between programs.
External
- Take primary responsibility for organizing the annual Color of Wealth Policy Summit.
- Work with our policy and media consultants; in particular, take the lead in organizing policy advocacy work in Washington DC in close partnership with Washington based partners.
- Write and produce CRWG products and/or other informational materials.
- Become a public spokesperson on this issue; public presentations, and writing op-eds.
- Manage and/or staff various working groups and advisory committees, build relationships with experts of color to increase their participation and incorporate their advice into the Initiative’s work.
- Outreach to new organizations to form partnerships.

Federal Transportation Policy Campaigner

Previous experience in transportation issues at the federal or state level and knowledge of climate change policy are preferred.
The ideal candidate will have a strategic approach to both policy and politics, and a desire to have a major impact on federal policy debates through hard-hitting advocacy. The successful candidate will have the ability to balance and successfully complete a wide range of campaign activities including advocacy, convening/organizing, policy development, and research, as well as the ability to oversee consultants, and coordinate with media, development, and legislative staff. International Development Internships
RTI's Center for Governance and Economic Growth (CGEG) is offering two internship positions focused on international economic development for the 2009 fall semester, and with possibilities of extension through May 2010. The program is open to undergraduate and graduate-level students and typically seeks candidates in the fields of economics, private sector development, sustainable business, finance, public policy, urban planning, as well as other related fields. Eligible candidates must be enrolled in a full-time study program at an accredited university.

Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst
SENTECH is seeking to employ a technical analyst to provide GIS support and analysis. The candidate will develop and implement technical assistance and analysis tools for a federal client. A strong policy, scientific, or engineering background is required. Experience with local governments is essential. Tasks include creating the resources and tools for performing policy analysis; measuring program performance measurement, reporting program benefits, and general program support for meetings and workshops; and supporting the development of reports, presentations, and other assignments related to energy efficiency programs. Broad technical knowledge is desired in energy efficiency and conservation, weatherization, transportation and renewable energy deployment, and policy. EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in an urban planning or policy-related field with technical experience or a degree in a computer science. Five years or less of relevant work experience.
