About CTP

New East Corner
The Department of City and Regional Planning at UNC was ranked in the top three by Planetizen’s 2007 Guide to Graduate Urban Planning Programs.

The Carolina Transportation Program is a collaborative effort by UNC’s College of Arts and Sciences, the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development, the Department of City and Regional Planning (DCRP), and the Center for Urban and Regional Studies (CURS) to support interdisciplinary transportation research within the UNC campus.

The educational mission of CTP is largely accomplished in DCRP, the home department of CTP faculty. DCRP is one of the oldest (established in 1946) and largest programs of graduate planning and research in the United States. The research mission of CTP is largely accomplished in CURS, which conducts research on a wide range of issues and problems faced by US cities and regions. It is the second oldest university based, urban research center in the country.

A number of corporate and government research facilities are in close proximity to the Universities, namely in the Research Triangle Park. Together, UNC-CH, North Carolina State University, and Duke University have formed the Triangle Universities' Transportation Group. This partnership allows CTP students to enroll in courses at any of the three institutions to complete UNC-CH degree requirements.
