Research and Practice
Dr. Rodríguez’s research focuses on the relationships that exist between transportation systems,
travel behavior and land use planning and urban development.  Through his study of these relationships,
Dr. Rodríguez has developed several projects of interest to practitioners and academics:

• Use of land use plans in conducting impact assessments of transportation projects;
• Estimation of land value impacts of bus rapid transit (BRT) systems;
• Incorporation of the connection between transportation and land development in land use plans;
• Study of differential travel impacts of new urbanist communities;
• Examination of impacts of transit oriented developments (TODs) and other accessibility-related
  interventions on traveler behavior;
• Development of an advanced transportation-land use model to evaluate vehicular emissions and regional
  air quality in the Charlotte (NC) metropolitan area; and
• Study of the physical activity consequences of residing in various urban environments in Montgomery
  County (MD).
