DCRP diversity – Planning for diverse communities
In response to student requests, DCRP sponsored a professional development workshop this fall to
understand the important role that diversity plays in creating community.  Our students recognize the
increasing diversity of the communities in which they will work as well as the necessity for planners to
be responsive to the needs of diverse populations.  With a goal that included developing a language to
discuss and better understand race and class, faculty, students and staff attended an all-day workshop
designed by local company ChangeWorks.

ChangeWorks’ mission is to dismantle racism and strengthen the organizational capacity of groups
and institutions that serve diverse communities.  Proactive exercises and discussions focused on
understanding and addressing racism from cultural, institutional and personal perspectives.
